Totnes

culture and cuisine in historic Totnes

A visit to the market town of Totnes is a treat on any day of the week. Its thriving town centre is less than five minutes walk from the River Link office at Steamer Quay.

Visit Fore Street, Ticklemore Street, The Narrows and little lanes leading off of these for fabulous food shops, boutiques, gift shops and more. Visit the museum, Totnes Castle, bookshops, galleries and exhibitions. Dining is a gastronomic treat in any of the tea-shops, patisseries, juice-bars, bistros and inns or vegetarian and ethnic diners – or picnic on nearby green and shady Vire Island, on the River Dart.

The famous Dartington Estate – home to the arts college and which provides the high standard of buskers in town - is a bus ride away, offering lush grounds and gardens, and the Cider Press Centre for purchasing local and ethnic crafts.

There is a regular and thriving market on Fridays, a farmers market on the last Saturday of each month; and in the summer season, an Edwardian market every Tuesday, all of which are located at the market place off Fore Street.

Car parking in Totnes

There are many car-parks about the town, but in high season and on market days it is noticeably more difficult; also, at peak times, traffic can be quite congested around the town. Allow plenty of time in your schedule.

There is some long-term parking available at Steamer Quay alongside the River Link booking offices, provided by Totnes Council, and is currently at £6 for a full day. Or, if you prefer, leave the car at home and travel on the Stagecoach bus network.

"One of the highlights of our holiday week."

Mr. & Mrs. Chattock; Brighton, Sussex.

Dartmouth

Catch all the action in stylish and delightful Dartmouth.

Sorry, your browser doesn't support Java.

Dartmouth is a thriving and prosperous harbour town, evoking both a sense of grandeur and of ‘plenty going on’. Impressive listed buildings line its lovely streets, visible on arrival at the quayside in the centre of town. Dartmouth offers many stylish and original shops as well as the practical and traditional, and boasts several galleries displaying original works by established and upcoming Devon artists.

Dine in one of many cafes, inns, breakfast-bars or restaurants, or enjoy your own refreshments sitting by the harbour-side or floral river-front public gardens.

It is easy to catch a regular ferry across to explore picture-postcard Kingswear, or to join a River Link Harbour Cruise - or why not make your day really special and take one of our River Link Coastal or Wildlife Cruises along the coast?

Dartmouth market takes place every Tuesday and Friday, and a farmers market on the second Saturday every month. Both can be located at The Old Market Square.

Parking in Dartmouth.

Parking in and around the town can be very difficult, especially in peak season. Allow plenty of time in your schedule. Please use the popular Park and Ride direct to the boats.

"The whole experience from my first contact with you to the actual trip was a pleasure…without exception, we all had a wonderful time."

Mrs L. Thornethwaite; Allendale House, Wimborne, Dorset

Paignton

Situated in the heart of the English Riviera with blue flag beaches, amusements and a pier, Paignton is the perfect family holiday destination.

The park in Palace Avenue leading up from the centre of town to Winner Street is a great place to relax, with its trees, shrubs and flower beds, with many park benches.

Marldon, a mile behind Paignton beyond the hills is a very old village and stills hold that community atmosphere, with their own country fayre, pubs and village shops. It is from this area that Paignton spread out and down to the bay area. Winner Street being one of the first streets to develop as a trading area behind Palace Avenue and Paignton Church. Many visitors never reach this area, but is well worth walking around. There are small shops, restaurants and Palace Avenue Theatre.

"Very pleasant and enjoyable trip – good value for the fare."

P.V. Forward; Plymouth, Devon
